Benefiting from its affiliation with the Tianjin Museum, the Tianjin Art Museum boasted a sizable collection right from its opening. Its holdings of modern and contemporary artworks are highly abundant, ranking among the top in domestic art museums of similar caliber. As a comprehensive art museum that integrates collection, research, aesthetic education promotion, and the display of both modern and contemporary art, the Tianjin Art Museum also fosters an immersive museum experience through its various public service facilities such as lecture halls, seminar rooms, library reading rooms, art studios, a café, and an art shop. This maximizes the museum’s functions in exhibition, research, education, and cultural leisure. The museum serves not only as a place to extend the life of artworks and a platform for artists to showcase their work but also as a window for citizens to appreciate high art, enhance the city’s overall image, and promote urban civilization.

Tianjin Art Museum is committed to establishing a knowledge-based and academic art museum, while also focusing on expanding its public welfare social functions, promoting cultural and artistic exchanges between China and abroad, and becoming a modern art museum of significant influence within China.

Designed by German architectural firm KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten, Tianjin Art Museum has a total floor area of over 28,000 square meters, with four floors above ground and one underground. The total exhibition space spans 9,000 square meters, capable of hosting multiple high-quality, large-scale domestic and international art exhibitions and events simultaneously.

Among them, the fourth floor houses the permanent exhibition galleries, all equipped with climate-controlled, enclosed display cases. These primarily feature regularly curated exhibitions, including selections from the museum's collection, fine cultural relics, and special exhibitions dedicated to important artists.

The first-floor galleries can be used for temporary exhibitions and also serve as opening ceremony halls for events such as openings, receptions, and press conferences. The museum also includes several reserve exhibition areas and open-space exhibition zones, providing opportunities for artists to showcase their creativity and take on challenging projects.

The second and third floors are special exhibition halls, both being open-plan, modern exhibition spaces suitable for displaying a wide variety of contemporary artworks and hosting large-scale cultural and art events.

The collection storage area is located on the first basement level, consisting entirely of climate-controlled storage rooms built according to museum storage standards.
