Daventry House
Daventry House is a cultural relics protection unit of Tianjin.
Daventry House was built in the 31st year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty [1905]. As one of the earlier residences constructed in the Five Great Avenues area, it is located on Race Course Road (now 121 Machang Road, Hexi District, Tianjin) in the former British Concession of Tianjin. To its east lies the original main building of Tianjin College of Industry and Commerce, designed in French Romanesque style (now Tianjin Foreign Studies University), and to its west is the former residence of Liu Guanxiong, the Minister of the Navy of the Republic of China, built in a European Symbolist style (now the office building of Tianjin University of Finance and Economics’ branch campus). It is a historically protected building of key importance and a cultural relics protection unit of Tianjin. Currently used as residential housing, it is an architectural gem showcasing classic Spanish residential style.
