Bessarabia Square

Bessarabia Square is located in the center of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It lies at the southern end of Khreshchatyk Street, the eastern end of Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, the northern end of Red Army Street, and the northwest corner of Lyudmyla Hlushchenko Street, and has become one of the most popular squares.

Before the 1840s, this area was on the outskirts of Kyiv, where merchants from Bessarabia sold goods, forming what was then a well-known large market — the Bessarabia Market. The square thus got its name. It was also known as University Square due to its proximity to the university. The current Bessarabia Square serves as a hub for multiple forms of transport and plays an important transportation role. It is also an ideal place for locals to go on weekend outings. On weekends, people love to gather here, relax in the sun, chat with others, creating a harmonious atmosphere.
