Ivan Honchar Museum

The Ivan Honchar Museum, also known as the “National Centre of Folk Culture,” is located in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Established in 1993, it is a museum that showcases Ukrainian culture and preserves Ukrainian folk art.

The museum was established from the private collection of Ivan Makarovych Honchar. During the Soviet era, he was a nationalist with a deep interest in folk culture, which led him to begin his personal collection. After his death in 1933, the museum was created. Currently, the museum houses 30,000 items from the 16th to the 20th century, including costumes, headdresses, pottery, earthenware, toys, Easter eggs, wood carvings, folk instruments, local art paintings, carvings, rare books, and portraits created by local artists. Among these, there are over 500 portraits, more than 100 oil paintings, as well as over 20,000 historical photographs.

In addition to these physical exhibits, the museum also features fascinating folk art workshops, a theater for folk songs and legends, and Ukrainian cooking classes. Every year, large gatherings are held here, featuring outstanding performances of folk songs and traditional dances.
