Birżebbuġa is a small but lively seaside resort and an important archaeological site. It is located in the southeast of Malta, about 8 kilometers from the capital Valletta. In Maltese, Birżebbuġa means "the island of olive trees." For decades, Birżebbuġa has been one of Malta’s most renowned tourist destinations, especially known for its beach called Pretty Bay and archaeological sites such as Għar Dalam.

Pretty Bay boasts beautiful scenery, with azure waters and soft sands under the blue sky. On weekends, many visitors come here to play and relax, making it very lively. Għar Dalam, which means "black cave" in Maltese, is a 144-meter-deep cave, though only 55 meters are open to the public. This is a highly significant archaeological site, as it provides the earliest evidence of human habitation in Malta. Ancient artifacts unearthed here date back over 7,400 years to the Neolithic period. Additionally, at the bottom of the cave, many fossilized bones of hippos, dwarf elephants, microfauna, and birds have been discovered, dating back around 500,000 years. Archaeologists believe this area may have once been a land bridge connecting to Europe.
