World’s Largest Floating Library: Logos Hope Carries 5,000 Books to Keelung

Lin Hsin-wei, the person in charge at Keelung Harbor Branch, stated that the crew aboard Logos Hope consists of 400 Christian volunteers from 60 countries. Back in January last year, they proactively approached the harbor bureau to request a stopover in Taiwan. After successful coordination this year, Logos Hope will dock at Berth 4 on the west side of Keelung Port at 4 PM on the 22nd. An opening event will be held at 12 PM on the 23rd, and the ship will be open to the public for visits until September 9.

It is understood that Logos Hope (Logos Hope) is currently the world’s largest floating library in scale. The ship is registered in Valletta, Malta, and is operated by the German Christian charity organization “GBA Ships e.V. – Good Books for All.” Since 1960, it has sailed the world, visiting approximately 160 countries and receiving around 40 million visitors on board. Operated by a German Christian charity organization, the Good Books for All association, Logos Hope not only provides access to good reading materials in the countries it visits but also has volunteers who engage in community service initiatives in the host nations.

In addition to housing a collection of over 5,000 book titles and nearly 600,000 volumes in its library area, Logos Hope also features an exhibition on life journeys, a theater, a restaurant, an international café, a clinic, and a lifestyle experience pavilion, among other facilities. After Logos Hope arrives at Keelung Port, the public can board the ship for a NT$20 cleaning fee for those aged 12 and above. The first 50 visitors each day can present an “early bird certificate” to gain free entry to the Yangming Marine Culture and Art Museum.
