House of Taga Ruins

Introduction

The House of Taga Ruins (House of Taga) is located at the House of Taga site in the southern part of Tinian Island. It consists of the stone remnants of a dwelling built by the Taga people and dates back 3,500 years. The stones used to construct the house were called latte stones, some reaching up to 6 meters in height. How these heavy stones were transported remains a mystery to this day. The House of Taga was supported by twelve pillars, of which only one remains today. When European explorers discovered this site, they marveled at the massive stone columns and the enormous capstones resting atop them. They were also deeply impressed by the strength and craftsmanship of the ancient Chamorro people.
