Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park

More than 1,700 islands, including Hongdo and Heuksando, floating on the azure sea like natural sculptures, captivate visitors. As a newly developed resort destination, transportation between the islands can be somewhat inconvenient, but ferries are available from Mokpo and Yeosu. Hongdo, made up of more than 230 islands, boasts (about a 2-hour trip from Mokpo’s south) breathtaking crimson-hued sunsets that dye the island red. Other worthwhile destinations include Jindo Island, famous for the “Moses Miracle” where the sea parts (about a 2-hour trip from Mokpo, with direct bus access via the Mokpo Bridge), offering beaches and fishing spots.

Transportation: From Gwangju Songjeong Station, it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach Mokpo by KTX. From Seoul, it takes about 4 hours and 35 minutes by Saemaeul or Mugunghwa train, or about 5 hours and 20 minutes by express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal. From Busan, transfer in Gwangju, then it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes from there.
