South Korea’s cherry blossom season kicks off in Jeju first, with Seoul blooming in mid-April

Stowing away ski gear and bidding farewell to the snow-covered winter, South Korea will don a colorful new look to welcome travelers from around the globe. According to forecasts from the Korea Meteorological Administration, the first wave of cherry blossoms in South Korea this year is expected to bloom around March 24 on the beautiful island of Jeju, while the Busan area will see the lovely blossoms around March 30. As for Seoul, a favorite among Taiwanese travelers, the peak bloom is predicted for around April 16. Although the overall blooming period is slightly later than the annual average, it is four days earlier than last year.

South Korea’s major cherry blossom viewing spots are spread across the country, among which the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival in the southern part of the country is the largest in scale and ranks as the top choice for both cherry blossom viewing and festivals. This year marks its 50th anniversary. During the event period from April 1 to April 10, three special celebrations will be held, including a “K-pop Star Concert,” a “Fireworks Show over the Sea,” and a “Special Fireworks Display at Yosu Stream, a Famous Cherry Blossom Spot.” The event will also feature performances by marching bands from around the world. The festival combines K-pop and traditional Korean culture, offering a variety of hands-on experiences.

Additionally, in Hadong County, South Gyeongsang Province, along the banks of the Gamcheon River, tens of thousands of cherry trees are planted, and it is predicted that their brilliant blooms can be enjoyed around April 1. Coupled with the scenic beauty of Jirisan Mountain, it is an unmissable sight in South Korea. Meanwhile, the famous Han River Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival in Seoul is predicted to showcase its blooming beauty around April 9 this year. When over 1,400 cherry trees bloom simultaneously, Yeouinaru Road becomes like a vibrant tunnel of cherry blossoms.
