Mount Wolchulsan National Park

The entire mountain is composed of rocky peaks, with sheer cliffs and steep slopes that resemble an exhibition of bizarre rocks and fantastic stones. Located near the coast, Mount Wolchulsan, like the Buan Peninsula, was recently designated as a national park. Don’t forget to bring drinks when hiking, and stay safe. This is the site of relics related to Wang In, a scholar who introduced the Thousand Character Classic and the Analects of Confucius to Japan and contributed to the formation of ancient Japanese culture. On the way up to Jiuktong Peak from this site lies Doam Temple, which is said to have been built by the Goryeo-era monk Doseon Guksa. The mountain is lush with old pine trees and bamboo, attracting many visitors in summer for its cool climate and in autumn for its maple leaves.

Transportation: It takes about one hour from Gwangju Intercity Bus Terminal to Yeongam, then another 20 minutes by bus from Yeongam.
