Hirosaki City

Hirosaki City is located in the southwestern part of Aomori Prefecture on Japan's Honshu Island. It was once the castle town of the Hirosaki Domain and is now the central city of the Tsugaru region, boasting a developed economy and forming the Hirosaki Metropolitan Area together with neighboring municipalities, with a total population of 330,000.

Hirosaki is a renowned tourist city in Aomori Prefecture, particularly famous for the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival and being the top apple-producing region in Japan, earning it the longstanding reputation as the “City of Cherry Blossoms and Apples.” Nestled between mountains and water, the city enjoys fresh air and beautiful surroundings. To the east, you can see the Hakkoda Mountain Range of the Ou Mountains, to the west lies Mount Iwaki—known as Tsugaru Fuji—and to the south it connects with the Shirakami-Sanchi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Iwaki River flows gently through the city from north to south, nourishing the vast Tsugaru Plain, making Hirosaki a picturesque place filled with both mountains and water.

Hirosaki also has a deep historical and cultural background, featuring numerous cultural structures such as a tenshu (keep) and Hirosaki Castle. Among them, Hirosaki Castle is home to 5,000 cherry blossom trees, making it one of the major cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan’s northeastern region.
