Aomori Apples × Scallop Festival: DIY Apple Candy Experience & Japanese Autumn Charm

Located in Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost part of Japan’s main island, renowned for its signature apples, autumn is the peak season for Aomori apples and also when Aomori scallops are at their most delicious. A popular autumn festival, the “Joyful Apple × Scallop Festival,” is held at the hot spring resort “Aomoriya.” In addition to the Tohoku region’s largest festival, the Nebuta Festival, autumn in Aomori also offers the chance to enjoy its two major specialties—apples and scallops—while having fun and indulging in delicious food.

On the first floor, the Joyful Plaza is adorned with lanterns inspired by the Aomori Nebuta Festival, as well as those shaped like apples and scallops, along with scallop-themed sofas covered in shell-shaped cushions. Sit in these special seats to enjoy various performances such as shamisen music and traditional dances. It's not only great for photos but also lets you experience the charm of traditional Aomori.

The Joyful Plaza also features an “Apple Gashapon Machine” and an “Apple Juice Faucet.” The huge gashapon machine contains gumballs filled with fresh Aomori apples, available for just 100 yen each, letting you instantly enjoy sweet and juicy Aomori apples. The apple juice faucet has two taps—one gold and one silver—dispensing different flavors of apple juice. After a soak in the hot springs or a stroll through the park, treat yourself to a refreshing and tangy glass of apple juice.
