Magical Golden Rat X Japanese Nebuta – A Prayer Lantern Festival Across Five Dazzling Zones for Stunning Photos

The 2020 New Taipei City Lantern Festival lasts for 24 days. This year, it features large traditional festival lanterns handcrafted by master lantern artist Lin Chien-er, alongside the richly Japanese-inspired Nebuta from Aomori and paper balloons from Osaki City, as well as 2020 colorful lanterns hand-painted by New Taipei students and citizens, making the February night sky of New Taipei even more brilliant.

In addition to continuing the tradition of Lantern Festival displays, this year’s event specially invites Japan’s internationally renowned “Aomori Nebuta Festival” and the “Osaki City Paper Balloons” from Akita Prefecture to join in the celebration.

The 2020 New Taipei City Lantern Festival has five major themed zones. The “Shimmering Splendor: A Revival of Ten Scenic Highlights” is designed around iconic landscapes of New Taipei City, featuring ten scenes: “Teapot Mountain,” “Pingxi Sky Lanterns,” “Hulongdi Temple of the Earth God,” “Fisherman’s Wharf Lover’s Bridge,” “Tamsui Light Rail,” “Wulai Waterfall,” “Bitan Suspension Bridge,” “Yehliu Queen’s Head,” “Fugui Cape Lighthouse,” and “Wanli Crab.”

“Japanese Nebuta Riding Paper Balloons Shimmer Through New Taipei” showcases the Japanese Aomori Nebuta and paper balloons from Osaki City, Akita Prefecture, exhibited in Taiwan; “Magical Golden Rat Maze Interactive Adventure” features a retro pinball machine and a little golden rat maze island for public interaction, photos, and check-ins; “Wishing Lantern Corridor Shines Brightly” is an exhibition area displaying 2020 colorful lanterns hand-painted by New Taipei students and citizens.
