Japan has four distinct seasons, and so do the landscapes of Mount Hakkoda.
Mount Hakkoda refers to a range of 16 connected mountains, centered around Mount Hakkoda-Dake, located in Aomori Prefecture.
In summer, the mountains are covered in greenery, and even if I couldn’t see the famous winter ice trees,
the scenery before me was enough to make me happy.
Nature and the mountains are full of spirit. Having lived surrounded by concrete jungles all your life, your perspective can’t possibly be broad.
When you see vast rivers and oceans, or continuous mountain ranges for the first time, your thoughts seem to fly with the birds,
as if someone finally removed the obstacles that blocked the sky.
The world doesn’t become bigger—it’s your eyes that become clearer.
It only takes 10 minutes by cable car to reach the mountaintop directly, where you can gaze at the unobstructed view of Aomori.
There are walking trails near the mountaintop park, perfect for a relaxing stroll. This area is a treasure trove of alpine plants, and anyone who loves flora and nature will surely fall in love with this place.

On clear days, you can even see Hokkaido across the water—it’s spectacular.
Mount Hakkoda Ropeway
Transportation: Take the JR bus bound for “Towada-ko” from JR “Aomori” Station and get off at “Hakkoda Ropeway Iriguchi.” The ride takes about 80 minutes.
Operating Hours: From March to early November, 09:00–15:40; from mid-November to the end of February, 09:00–16:20
Buses run every 15 to 20 minutes

P.S. In winter, you can see “juhyo” (ice trees), a rare natural phenomenon said to occur only in Japan and a few other countries. In addition, winter visitors can enjoy skiing and snow hiking.
