Breaking News: First Snowfall Hits Aomori in Northeastern Japan, Accumulation Reaches 3 cm

While Taiwan is still experiencing the mildly cool weather of autumn, Aomori in northeastern Japan saw its first snowfall at 10 p.m. last night (27th). According to information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency, an accumulation of 3 cm of snow was recorded in the Suanotō area of Mount Hakkoda in Aomori, with temperatures around 0°C—slightly later than last year’s first snowfall.

The reporter visited the Aoni Onsen area, which is also in Aomori Prefecture and located further into the mountains from Suanotō, last night. Snow also fell there this morning (28th), although not enough to accumulate. Temperatures were around 0°C to 2°C, making it feel quite cold, so travelers heading to northeastern Japan should be sure to take proper cold-weather precautions.
