100 Architects Involved in Creating Paris’s New Landmark – The Opening of the Louis Vuitton Foundation Art Museum

 According tothe Daily Mail, this new Paris landmark known as the“Iceberg”is a new art museum built by the Louis Vuitton Foundation. Its shape is that of a grand iceberg combined with glass sails, creating a stunning visual. The construction project spanned 13 years, cost 3.8 billion Taiwanese dollars, and saw the involvement of 100 architects and 3,000 construction workers.

The designer is Canadian deconstructivist architecture master Frank Gehry, whose past works include the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. According to him, the inspiration for this project came from the play of light through glass and garden architecture in the late 19th century. He wanted to “design, for Paris, a grand vessel that symbolizes French culture.”

On the 20th, this dazzling modern structure was inaugurated in the presence of French President Hollande and fashion industry luminaries. “It really is a unique building. I’ve never designed anything like it before, and it will become one of the representative works of 21st-century architecture,” Gehry said on the foundation’s website. The museum houses a total of 11 galleries, offering 3,850 square meters of exhibition space.

Currently “privately owned,” the museum opened to the public on October 27. Although local residents initially strongly opposed the project due to concerns over reduced green space, 50 years later, the Louis Vuitton Art Foundation will donate it to the City of Paris, making it a shared asset for all citizens.
