The snow-covered silver-white world is a rare sight in Taiwan and one that many long to experience. Now, there’s a chance to immerse yourself in it. Aomori Prefecture, located at the northernmost tip of Japan’s Honshu Island, is publicly recruiting bloggers to visit the area. From now until February 5, individuals aged 18 or above who have a blog can visit the “Snow Country Aomori Call for Bloggers” campaign website to fill out an application form for a chance to travel to Aomori for free and enjoy a 4-day, 3-night snow adventure.

Those who wish to participate can apply by filling out the call form on the campaign website to qualify for the Snow Country Adventure selection as well as for a chance to win apple-themed prizes. Five selected bloggers will embark on a 4-day, 3-night trip to Aomori from February 17 to February 20. All expenses including round-trip airfare, accommodation, meals, attraction entry tickets, and transportation will be fully covered. Upon returning, the five bloggers are required to write at least three blog posts about their experience, each with a minimum of 600 words and at least eight related local photos.

The highlight of this adventure is a walk among the tree ice of Mount Hakkoda. Between January and February, influenced by the cold winds blowing from the Siberian Plateau, the mountain is transformed into a wonderland of tree ice. Visitors can take a cable car up the mountain and stroll among the tree ice formations in the sub-zero chill. On clear days, you can even enjoy views of the Tsugaru Plain and Mount Iwaki, known as the “Tsugaru Fuji.” You can also ride the renowned Tsugaru Railway sightseeing train, which features a seasonal stove-heated car in winter. One of Aomori’s local specialties, squid grilled on a coal stove, is served onboard — a perfect treat while admiring the vast snowy landscapes.
