Makuhari Messe was first established in 1989 as a large convention and exhibition center located in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It was formed through the merger of the International Exhibition Hall owned by Chiba Prefecture, the company’s International Conference Hall, and the Makuhari Conference Hall. “Makuhari” is the name of the local area, while “Messe” is the German word for “trade fair.”

Makuhari Messe covers a total area of approximately 210,000 square meters, making it the second-largest convention and exhibition center in Japan after Tokyo Big Sight, and also one of the busiest. In 2006, its visitor count exceeded one hundred million. The center consists of the International Exhibition Hall, the International Convention Hall, and the Event Hall, among other related facilities. It is a large-scale comprehensive exhibition facility that hosts a variety of events such as conventions, conferences, sporting events, and music performances. The venue includes exhibition rooms with adjustable sizes achieved through movable partitions, accommodating various spaces and types of displays, as well as diverse performances. Every year during Golden Week in May, it hosts Japan’s largest-scale flea market, featuring a wide array of goods and attracting visitors from around the world.
