Ichikawa City

Ichikawa City is located in the northwest of Chiba Prefecture, Japan, adjacent to Edogawa Ward of Tokyo across the Edo River, and is the fourth most populous city in Chiba Prefecture. The southern part of the city faces Tokyo Bay and is an important component of the Keiyo Industrial Zone. In addition, it boasts abundant green spaces and rivers.

Ichikawa is a city that has evolved with historical background and cultural richness. It is home to scattered historical sites within the city such as the Sogaya Shell Mound, the Kazusa Provincial Capital, and Kokubunji Temple, as well as legends like that of Maeno Torenai, celebrated in the Man’yōshū. Religious tourist destinations here include the Kazusa Kokubunji Temple, Nakayama Hokkeji Temple, Katsushika Hachimangu Shrine, Torenai Reishindo Hall, Hongiyama Myogyoji Temple, and Maenozan-Temple. In addition to numerous temples, visitors can also explore sites such as Yakumo no Mori, the Ministry of the Imperial Household’s Shinagawa Duck Farm, the Literary Walking Path, the Man’yō Botanical Garden, Daikin Garden, Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Park, the Ichikawa Nature Museum, the Ichikawa Archaeological Museum, the Ichikawa History Museum, the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Modern Industry and Science, Satomi Park, Ichikawa Wild Bird Park, the Ichikawa City Central Library, and the Building Ruins of the Chiba Prefectural Serum Research Institute.

Ichikawa is also famous for the Ichikawa Citizens' Summer Fireworks Festival, which has been held since 1985, taking place along the banks of the Edo River from late July to early August each year. The event attracts huge crowds and is extremely lively.
