Dongshan River Water Park is located by the Dongshan River in Wujie Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. Construction began in 1987, the park opened in June 1993, and was officially completed in June 1994. Combining the characteristics of the Dongshan River, the park adopts the theme of “getting close to water and embracing greenery,” and makes extensive use of traditional Yilan building materials to present visitors with a unique style that is both rustic and refined.

The Dongshan River is the fifth-largest river in Yilan County, flowing through the three townships of Luodong, Dongshan, and Wujie. Over its 24-kilometer course, the river has been developed into a riverside recreational area integrating education, sports, leisure, and entertainment. The river is divided into upper, middle, and lower sections, each offering distinct recreational experiences, and the Water Park is one of the most important recreational hubs along the Dongshan River.

Legend has it that the Dongshan River has been guarded by a Green Dragon and a Yellow Dragon since ancient times. As a result, the riverbanks feature undulating, winding dragon-shaped slopes built with cobblestones. The steps of the dragon slopes are also adorned with playful mosaics created by children from Yilan, adding a delightful touch. Nowadays, Yilan’s annual Dragon Boat Festival races, international university rowing invitational competitions, and the International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival are all held at the Water Park. Additionally, there is a Magpie Bridge in the park, which adds a romantic atmosphere to China’s Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine’s Day).
