Mingchi Forest Recreation Area

Mingchi Forest Recreation Area is located in Yingshi Village, Datong Township, Yilan County, Taiwan, near the Northern Cross-Island Highway (Provincial Highway No. 7). It was originally managed by the Forestry Conservation Division of the Veterans Affairs Council and is now operated by the Coconut Grove Enterprise. The recreation area sits at an altitude of approximately 1,150 to 1,700 meters and features facilities such as a nursery and forest trails. The area boasts rich forest landscapes and is home to various animals including birds, butterflies, squirrels, mandarin ducks, and mallards, making it a key attraction along the Northern Cross-Island Highway.

Mingchi is a high-altitude alpine lake surrounded by pristine ecology, cool climate, and stunning scenery, resembling a fairyland and serving as a summer retreat in northern Taiwan. In early summer, the chirping of cicadas echoes through the mountains, creating a fascinating symphony of nature that captivates all visitors. In addition to the lake, other highlights of Mingchi Forest Recreation Area include the nursery, forest bathing trails, Taolan Pavilion, Cixiao Pavilion, as well as recreational facilities. Rare gardens such as the fern garden, moss garden, quiet stone garden, and fairy tale forest maze further enrich the visitor experience. To accommodate travelers, the area also offers accommodation and dining options, making it a rare and relaxing getaway for city dwellers.
