The Three-Tiered Waterfall is located within the Taiping Mountain Forest Recreation Area in Datong Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. Visitors can take the park’s jeepney to the forest below Maosing Station, then hike about 2.7 kilometers down into the valley to reach it. Along the way to the waterfall, the entire path is paved with a mix of high-pressure bricks and stone slabs, with dense cypress and broadleaf forests lining the road—offering stunning scenery and fresh air filled with earthy scents and forest phytoncides that invigorate the senses.

The Three-Tiered Waterfall is divided into upper, middle, and lower tiers, hence its name. The upper tier is powerful and majestic, historically known as the “Devil’s Waterfall.” The middle tier features a wide pool below the cascade, with emerald-green, crystal-clear water that retains a pristine, natural vibe. The lower tier consists of a double-stream waterfall, which is the most spectacular and the most popular among visitors. Surrounded by lush forests and nestled in a quiet valley with cascading waters, visitors can breathe in the refreshing anions produced by the splashing droplets, accompanied by mountain stream birds such as the grey-cheeked fulvetta and the little forktail—making it an instantly uplifting experience that washes away all worries.

The Three-Tiered Waterfall is grand and imposing, with its vibrant green pool setting it apart from other scenic spots in the Taiping Mountain Forest Recreation Area. The area around the pool is spacious, filled with fragrant flowers and birdsong, offering the pleasure of immersing oneself in the wild charm of deep mountain valleys.
