The Old Taitung Railway Station

The Old Taitung Railway Station is located at No. 371, Tiehua Road, Taitung City. After the station was closed in 2001 (the 90th year of the Republic of China), through the concerted efforts of the Council for Cultural Affairs, Taiwan Railways Administration, and Taitung County Government, the station building, warehouses, locomotives, and turntable tracks were preserved and transformed into the Taitung Railway Art Village. The old railway line was converted into an urban bike path, allowing the public to ride and stroll along the nostalgic charm of the historic railway.

After its transformation, the Old Taitung Railway Station serves a very different purpose from its original operational function. It now primarily functions as the venue for art and cultural events at the Taitung Railway Art Village and as a tourist information center offering sightseeing services, becoming a fresh, beautiful, alternative, and avant-garde new space within Taitung’s arts and leisure landscape.
