From December to February each year, the vibrant red Taitung millet, as it ripens and changes color, becomes a unique cultural landscape in Taitung County. During this season, the region is quietly blanketed in fiery red floral carpets, including at Taitung Forest Park, Liwu Tribe, Baomao Tribe, and others. The upward-reaching stalks of millet weave together a sea of flowers in shades of fiery red, bright yellow, and vivid orange—creating an exceptionally beautiful sight.

Millet is highly nutritious
In addition to viewing the millet, the Taitung Soil and Water Conservation Bureau has partnered with travel agencies and local accommodation providers to launch the “Taitung Leisure Tour.” This program offers itineraries with different themes for each day of the week, including special tours during the Taitung Millet Season, allowing visitors to experience the rural charm of Taitung.

Taitung millet is scattered across the hills of the Hengchun Peninsula and is a traditional grain crop of the indigenous people. It is highly nutritious—the basic nutritional components of its seeds are about twice that of rice, with a protein content similar to wheat, plus 14% high dietary fiber. Currently, no other food can match it. Taitung millet also contains rare elements that can strengthen immunity, such as selenium (Se) and germanium (Ge), making it an excellent source of comprehensive nutrition.
