The “2011 Taitung International Surfing Invitational & Open” will take place on November 26 and 27 at Jinzun Fishing Port in Donghe Township, Taitung County. Following Malaysia, ... , the ASC international surfing organization has rated Taitung as one of Asia’s best surfing spots; the event will gather over a hundred domestic and international surfers along with a prestigious international judging panel. Australian professional surfer Ry Craike has also been invited to Taiwan to compete and exchange skills with local surfers!

ASC is known for its strict standards, setting very high requirements for surfing venues. Thanks to its geographical location, wind direction, wave conditions, and other factors, Taitung was selected and rated as a five-star competition site (the organization’s highest rating is six stars). Taitung County Magistrate Huang Jian-ting stated: “With this ASC Asian Surfing Tour event being held in Taiwan for the first time, we are inviting internationally renowned surfers to take on the waves of the East Coast. Coupled with coverage from both domestic and international news and sports media, this will surely boost the visibility of Taiwan and Taitung. We also hope to see more surfing enthusiasts come to Taitung and have fun together. Taitung County Government will continue striving to become the Hawaii of Asia!”

In addition to the surfing competitions, Taitung County Government is also organizing a Surfers’ Night, showcasing the indigenous culture of Taitung on an international stage. To make it easier for visitors to reach the event venue, the organizers, in collaboration with Taitung County Government and the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, have set up “Taiwan Trip” shuttle bus stops. Round-trip services are available hourly throughout the day from locations such as Taitung Airport and Taitung Railway Station, helping visitors avoid parking and transportation hassles.
