Taitung County’s Red Leaf Village gets its name from the surrounding mountains blanketed with maple trees. The area is scattered with settlements of the Bunun indigenous people. Red Leaf Elementary School is the only school in the village, and the monument to the Red Leaf Little League team on campus evokes memories of a glorious and unforgettable chapter in history. The meandering Red Leaf Stream flows through the Taitung Valley, forming the Red Leaf Valley alluvial plain. Opposite Red Leaf Elementary School lies the Luye River Valley, the source of the Red Leaf Hot Springs. A roughly 30-minute walk along the path next to the school leads you to the lower reaches of the Red Leaf Stream, where hot water seeps from the riverbed beneath the cliffs — this is the Red Leaf Hot Springs area.
