Shi Yuan Beach

Shi Yuan Beach is situated on the southern edge of the arc-shaped Dulan Bay in Beinan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan, about 12 kilometers from downtown Taitung, and is the only beach in the entire county. The beach is over 1 kilometer long, with coral reefs widely distributed in the surrounding waters to the north and south. The shoreline features soft, delicate sand and a broad, level terrain, with crystal-clear water that is ideal for various water activities and family-friendly fun. It’s also a great spot for tourists to relax and enjoy leisure time.

The coastal ecosystem around Shi Yuan Beach is rich and diverse, often home to amphibians. However, in recent years, the eastern coastline has suffered severe erosion from the Pacific Ocean, compounded by illegal and excessive hotel construction. These issues have not only led to the gradual inward retreat of the coastline but have also disrupted the ecological balance of native flora and fauna. If this continues, Shi Yuan Coast may not escape the devastation caused by both natural and human factors. Faced with the looming threat of rapid disappearance in the near future, civic groups have formed self-help organizations to protect this precious and unique coastline in Taitung. The government, along with experts, has also begun environmental surveys and conservation efforts. It is hoped that the pristine beauty of Shi Yuan Beach will be restored and visible to all again in the not-too-distant future.
