Dapeng Bay Scenic Area

Established in 1997, Dapeng Bay Scenic Area is primarily located in the Dapeng Bay waters on the southwestern side of Taiwan proper and the adjacent land. The area encompasses two major scenic zones: Dapeng Bay and Liuqiu. The northern boundary of Dapeng Bay is formed by Provincial Highway 17 and County Highway Ping 63, while the eastern boundary follows the township border of Linbian, turning along existing drainage canal dikes and continuing onto County Highways Ping 12-1 and 128. The western boundary is defined by the existing urban residential zone line of Donggang, connecting to the new channel of Donggang Township. The southern boundary extends 600 meters from the shoreline into the sea. The Liuqiu Scenic Zone covers Liuqiu Island and an additional 600-meter marine buffer from the shoreline.

Dapeng Bay is the largest lagoon in Taiwan, boasting rich marine and terrestrial biodiversity. It features unique local mangrove species such as Kandelia obovata and coastal plants like beach morning glory, litsea rotundifolia var. oblongifolia, and sceptridium ternatum. Wildlife mainly includes birds, fish, and crustaceans, with 95 recorded bird species—both migratory and resident—as well as fish such as grouper. The area’s fiddler crabs inhabiting the wetlands are also a notable highlight.

Liuqiu is the only coral island among Taiwan’s 14 offshore islands. The entire island is dotted with peculiar rock formations, offers stunning ocean views, and features a wide variety of affordable seafood, attracting large numbers of domestic and international tourists each year.
