Step into a Nordic winter wonderland！ Taiwan’s only “5-meter-tall Christmas crystal ball” is in Pingtung

As the most heartwarming month of the year arrives, department stores and local governments across Taiwan have decked out in Christmas decorations, and Pingtung County Government is no exception. This year’s theme is “Encountering Nordic Scenes in the South,” featuring Nordic-inspired designs and debuting a towering 5-meter-tall “Christmas Crystal Ball” at Pingtung Park for the first time！ Transforming this historic park—over a century old—into a Nordic-style Christmas wonderland.

The nearly 5-meter-tall “Romantic Crystal Ball” is the centerpiece of Pingtung’s Christmas celebrations this year. Inside the sphere, a ballet dancer twirls gracefully to Christmas music, accompanied by a scene of falling snowflakes that evokes childhood memories and creates an overwhelmingly dreamy atmosphere. The lighting ceremony held yesterday (the 2nd) kicked off Pingtung’s Christmas festivities.

This year, the county government has created a kingdom of light at Pingtung Park. The entrance features a pop-art Santa Claus archway, and Christmas patterns combined with geometric triangles form a romantic Nordic aurora, creating a tunnel of time. The lights on the Tree of Life end in fruits of various colors, symbolizing different ethnicities and lives. The Mirror Water Moon showcases the magical interplay of light and shadow, while reindeer roam the park’s grasslands, waiting for Santa to claim them. A variety of unique and dazzling light installations bring the festive spirit to life.

Additionally, the Christmas Grassland Picnic will take place on December 16 and 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Pingtung Park. The event will feature live music performances, DIY craft workshops, outdoor games, and soft music sessions. Every weekend in December, starting at 5:00 PM, a cultural and creative market and gift exchange will be held, filling Pingtung with an authentic Nordic Christmas vibe.
