A Winter Wonderland in Pingtung: Christmas Lights to Illuminate the South with Igloos & Aurora Tunnels

Santa’s arrived in Pingtung! For the first time this year, Pingtung County Government is hosting a Christmas event at Pingtung Park, themed “Encountering Nordic Scenes in the South.” The century-old Pingtung Park has been transformed into a Scandinavian Christmas wonderland. During the trial lighting on November 30th, a dreamy ballet girl’s crystal ball, miniature igloo village, and reindeer light decorations lit up in vibrant colors, creating a romantic ambiance under the night sky.

Pingtung’s Christmas celebrations officially kick off on the 2nd, but the county government gave an early preview of the lighting yesterday. From the bougainvillea-lined entrance where Santa greets visitors, to the “Aurora Tunnel,” “Igloo Village,” and European-style lights along the coconut palm avenue, the event immerses visitors in a magical Christmas atmosphere with a strong Nordic feel. Additionally, the park features an oversized “miniature landscape” with enlarged versions of homes and furniture, making visitors feel like they’ve entered a land of giants—stepping inside, people themselves become part of the light display. A 4-meter-tall metal “Tree of Life,” inspired by Norse mythology, displays fruits in various glowing colors for a fantastical experience.

Pingtung’s Christmas event will officially light up at 6:30 PM on December 2nd, featuring this year’s main Christmas tree, the “Romantic Crystal Ball.” Inside the sphere, a ballet girl dances gracefully to festive Christmas music, accompanied by a snowfall scene that evokes nostalgic childhood holiday magic. Beyond Pingtung Park, romantic Christmas lights also adorn the surrounding county government area, including a striking 10-meter-tall Christmas tree at the plaza in front of the government building, enhanced by dynamic lighting projections.
