Sheding Nature Park

Sheding Nature Park is situated southeast of Kenting Forest Recreation Area, spanning over 180 hectares. The terrain is mainly shaped by coral reef forests, featuring grasslands, shrublands, canyons, and limestone caves, with an average height of about 200 meters. The whole area is interconnected by a 13-kilometer trail and features scenic rest shelters and interpretive signage. It is a nature park rich in pristine charm and intellectual appeal. Additionally, migratory birds can be observed here every October.

The park is home to as many as 290 plant species, nurturing over 50 types of butterflies, making it an ideal spot within Kenting National Park for butterfly ecology observation. The parking lot in front of the park consists of three vast grasslands covered with longspur flowers in blue and purple. Walking into the park along the trail, you first reach the tropical shrubland, where the sounds of birds and fluttering butterflies create a rich and captivating ecological landscape. The park’s first highlight, "Lion-Turtle Ridge," is located here. Continuing on, you’ll enter the mountainous grassland area, which also includes reefs, secondary primeval forests, and butterflies. Lying on the lawn, you can gaze at the beautiful seascape of Eluanbi Lighthouse, the Bashi Channel, and the Pacific Ocean.

On the eastern side of the trail lies a massive canyon, a huge coral rock formation with cracks over 50 meters wide. The treetops at the top of the valley intertwine, creating a view resembling a "skyline" when viewed from below—an extraordinary landscape. The park also has over 40 limestone caves, housing many precious stalactite and stalagmite formations. To preserve these natural assets, the caves are under protection.

Transportation Guide

1. Take a bus operated by Taiwan Bus, Pingtung Bus, or Kaohsiung Bus from Hengchun to Kenting National Park, get off at Kenting National Park, and walk to the site.

2. Buses operated by Taiwan Bus or Kaohsiung Bus from in front of Kaohsiung Railway Station, next to Pingtung Railway Station, and from Kaohsiung International Airport (Xiaogang Airport) go directly to Kenting National Park.
