Jiufen
Jiufen is located in the hilly northeastern region of Taiwan, surrounded by mountains and facing the sea. It was once Taiwan’s center for gold mining and boasts ever-changing mountain and sea scenery. This small mountain town preserves the simple charm of its past life.
After the discovery of gold mines during the Guangxu era, it suddenly prospered and earned the nickname “Little Hong Kong” for this hillside town. By the 33rd year of the Republic of China (1944), however, due to the depletion and lack of mining value of the mineral deposits, Jiufen’s golden age came to an end.
