Three Gorges Old Street

The most well-preserved sections of Three Gorges Old Street are found along Minquan Street, Heping Street, Ren'ai Street, and Zhongshan Road. Among these, Minquan Street was the bustling commercial hub during the street’s heyday and still retains complete rows of commercial buildings dating back to the Japanese colonial period. Originally known as "Sanzhangyong Street," Minquan Street has been an important commercial thoroughfare in Three Gorges since the Qing Dynasty, where numerous goods and materials were traded. During the Japanese colonial era, the street underwent urban redevelopment—roads were widened, eaves, arcades, and drainage systems were improved—transforming it into a neat and modern commercial street. At that time, the area was filled with shops such as dye houses, lumber mills, and tea houses, while new Western-style buildings began to emerge, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the era. Next to Minsheng Road in the town center of Sanxia, there stands the Qingshui Zushi Temple, established in the 34th year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign. The temple enshrines Qingshui Zushi and remains highly popular among worshippers. Alongside Longshan Temple in Wanhua and Bao’an Temple in Dalongdong, it is known as one of the “Three Great Temples of Taipei.” The temple is renowned across Taiwan for its exquisitely detailed carvings and is hailed as the “Eastern Hall of Art,” standing as a classic example of traditional Taiwanese temple architecture.
