The Sanxingdui Museum

The Sanxingdui Museum is located on the southern bank of the Tamsui River estuary in Bali Township, Taipei County, covering an area of approximately 62,500 square meters. In the 46th year of the Republic of China (1957), geologist Lin Chao-chi discovered prehistoric iron-smelting remains here, as well as many prehistoric pottery shards, stone pedestals, and concave stones. He thereby concluded that this was a prehistoric site and named it the Sanxingdui Site based on the local place name. As for the name “Sanxingdui Site,” it follows archaeological naming conventions whereby prehistoric sites are typically named after the smallest administrative or geographical unit where they are found. The location of the Sanxingdui Site, at Dinggu Village in Bali Township, Taipei County, is also known by the alias “Sanxingdui Village,” from which the site takes its name.
