Yingge Town

Yingge Town is located at the western end of Taipei County, bordering Shulin City to the east and Bade City and Taoyuan City in Taoyuan County to the west. On the slopes of the northern mountain range of Yingge Town lies a giant rock resembling a parrot, known as “Parrot Rock,” “Eagle Rock,” “Yingge,” or “Yingge Stone.” Legend has it that this peculiar rock often emitted mist and devoured people. When Koxinga led his troops through the area, they were hindered by the miasma, and soldiers were eaten. In response, he struck the rock forcefully, dispersing the miasma and allowing his army to advance. This is a well-known local legend among the people of Yingge, and the town’s name is derived from this remarkable rock. The Qing Dynasty’s “Danshui Hall Chronicles” also records a similar legend: “Parrot Rock is located in Sanjiaoyong,” facing off against Yushan Mountain. It is said to emit mist and create miasma, causing the army of the puppet Zheng to lose their way. They severed its neck, but since Koxinga never personally traveled to northern Taiwan, this account is questioned.
