Zhushan Ancestral Temple

Zhushan Ancestral Temple is located beside Minsheng Road in Zhushan Township. Established in the 34th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1769), it is primarily dedicated to the Deity of Clear Water (Chen Zhaoying), hence also known as the Ancestral Temple. Due to natural disasters, it has been rebuilt twice, and the third reconstruction took place after the retrocession, led by artist Mr. Li Meishu who designed and planned the temple. He transformed it into a place that blends history, culture, and art. The entire temple features a wooden roof and stone foundation, laid out in a five-gate, three-hall structure. The temple is richly adorned with carvings everywhere — no space is left untouched. Its most stunning features are the stone and wood carvings, many of which were crafted by master artisans of national treasure status. The Ancestral Temple is not only a center of faith in the Zhushan area but also renowned both in Taiwan and abroad for its exquisitely fine craftsmanship, earning the title of “Oriental Art Palace.”
