Chengtian Temple

Chengtian Temple is located on Chengtian Road, Tucheng District, New Taipei City. Established in 1955, it was founded by the eminent Buddhist master Master Guangqin and is a renowned Buddhist site in northern Taiwan.

Master Guangqin came to Taiwan in 1948, first practicing in seclusion at the Sun-Moon Cave before moving here to establish the temple. He named it "Chengtian Temple" after the famous temple of the same name in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, where he had been initiated as a child, in honor of his master.

Walking up Chengtian Road to the mountainside, you will see the white-walled, green-roofed Chengtian Temple, solemn and dignified. On regular days, many people come up the mountain for Zen practice and Buddhist worship. Aside from paying homage, visitors can pause here to admire the views of the Taipei Basin, Guanyin Mountain, and the Tamsui River, which are truly refreshing.

Ascending the stone steps of Chengtian Road to the mountainside, you will find the white-walled, green-roofed Chengtian Temple, built in 1955. Solemn and dignified, it is a well-known Buddhist site in Taiwan Province. Normally, many people come up the mountain for Zen practice and Buddhist worship. Aside from worshiping, visitors can stand in front of the temple and gaze into the distance, overlooking the Taipei Basin, the scenery of Guanyin Mountain, and the Tamsui River, offering an exceptional view. The temple has also purchased a large tract of land adjacent to the valley, which may be developed into a liberation pond and a bird liberation garden in the future. Additionally, the scenic sight of fire and water emerging together at HaHa Valley will also be open to the public.

2 Scenic Views Located on the mountainside in the suburbs of Tucheng District, Chengtian Temple is surrounded by forest trails that, every April and May, become covered with tung blossoms, resembling a path blanketed in white snow—so beautiful that one hesitates to step on it. This is a well-known tung blossom trail in northern Taiwan, and the central attraction, Chengtian Temple, is also known as the "Tung Blossom Zen Temple."

Established in 1951, Chengtian Temple stands out with its green roof tiles and white walls amid the forest. The chanting of Zen sutras harmonizes with the sounds of insects and birds in the woods, creating a naturally beautiful atmosphere. The walking path to the left of the temple is where tung blossoms are most densely clustered. The mountain area retains many tall native broadleaf trees, among which tung trees are scattered. Their white petals contrast beautifully with the green fallen leaves and the blue-green moss at the base of the trees, forming a picturesque scene.

3 Transportation

By Car:

1. National Freeway No. 3: Exit at the Tucheng Interchange, turn onto Provincial Highway 3, go straight, then turn right onto Chengtian Road and continue straight to reach Chengtian Temple.

2. You can also reach Chengtian Temple by passing through the Qingshuitan No. 3 Well via the Nantianshu Mountain Trail.

By Public Transport:

1. Bus: Take bus No. 231, 233, or 705 to Tucheng Station. Walk along Section 3 of Zhongyang Road and then turn onto Chengtian Road to reach Chengtian Temple.

2. MRT: Take the Brown Line (Ban-Nan Line) to Yongning Station, then walk out of the exit toward Chengtian Road to reach Chengtian Temple.
