Yehliu Geopark

Yehliu Geopark is located in Yehliu Village, Wanli District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, within the management area of the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area, and is one of the renowned tourist attractions on Taiwan’s northern coast. It is a peninsula that extends from the Datun Mountain range into the East China Sea, stretching approximately 1,700 meters in length and about 250 meters in width. The area features spectacular geological formations such as the “Queen’s Head,” “Fairy’s Shoe,” and “Candlestick Rock,” all created through rock weathering and sea erosion. These formations hold significant value for educational interpretation, tourism, and academic research.

The rock layers in Yehliu mainly consist of thick sandstone formations dating back 10 to 25 million years, predominantly in bluish-gray and yellowish-gray hues. Famous formations such as mushroom rocks, candlestick rocks, and ginger rocks are found here. The interaction of three distinct rock layers, along with tectonic movements and thousands of years of wave action and weathering, has produced many rare small-scale landforms. The park’s naturally formed attractions—such as the axe-shaped cliff, mushroom rocks, tofu rocks, and honeycomb rocks—leave every visitor in awe, marveling at the remarkable artistry of nature.
