Urumqi People's Park

Urumqi People's Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

People's Park is located on the west side of the Urumqi River. It is a comprehensive cultural, entertainment, and leisure park, and the largest and oldest park in downtown Urumqi.

The park was first established in the ninth year of the Guangxu reign (1883), and was later expanded in 1918 under the governance of Yang Zengxin, who was then the ruler of Xinjiang. He had the lake dredged, the shores renovated, and, modeled after the hall-style architecture of ancient central China, built the Danfeng Chaoyang Pavilion. Later additions included the Dragon King Temple, Drunk on Sunset Pavilion, Dawn Spring Pavilion, Mirror Lake Pavilion, and the "Yuewei Caotang" built in memory of Ji Xiaolan, a renowned scholar of the Qing Dynasty. Today, the park features towering trees, blooming flowers, secluded garden paths, the dazzling "Crystal Palace," sculptures around pavilions and courtyards, as well as attractions such as a children's playground and roller-skating rink. From spring through autumn, the park frequently hosts flower shows, potted plant exhibitions, calligraphy and painting displays, and photography exhibitions. In the depths of winter, ice sculpture festivals are often held, along with ice-skating activities.
