Starbucks Taiwan opens its first branch in Matsu, responding to the long-awaited hopes of local residents. On December 26, 2017, the grand opening of the Starbucks Matsu branch was met with an enthusiastic welcome from consumers. The estimated number of people queuing on the opening day exceeded 500. This is the 424th Starbucks branch in Taiwan and the northernmost one in the country. It also completes the presence of Starbucks branches in every county in Taiwan. Not only can coffee lovers in Matsu enjoy the aroma of coffee, but now every corner of Taiwan has a Starbucks partner providing service.

In addition to regular coffee beverages, the Matsu branch also offers pour-over coffee service. The store design reflects the local characteristics of Matsu, incorporating the unique natural wonder of the “Blue Tears” and using local materials such as “Eastern Min-style stone house architecture” and “traditional sun-dried bamboo weaving screens.” Every detail tells a story. A special Starbucks Community Ambassador service is also set up at the Matsu branch to deepen community connections and convey local emotions and historical memories. Customers visiting the Starbucks Matsu branch can savor the charm of this scenic island through the aroma of coffee.

The Starbucks Matsu branch is located next to Fugang Harbor in Nangan, situated within a newly built structure designed to resemble a ship. The single-floor branch covers a total area of 46 ping and offers seating for 50 guests. It is also the only Starbucks branch in Taiwan equipped with heating. The indoor island-style bar not only serves regular coffee beverages but also offers pour-over coffee service, allowing customers to watch skilled baristas brew coffee right in front of them and enjoy a leisurely coffee moment.

The bar features a transparent spatial design, facing the views of Fugang Harbor and Binhai Boulevard, giving customers a fully immersive visual experience and a chance to appreciate the harbor scenery. The guest seating wall is made of cement bricks that mimic the traditional Eastern Min-style stone house architecture, using traditional stonemasonry techniques such as the “I-cut” and “zigzag-cut” methods, while also echoing the unique geometric granite terrain of Matsu formed by natural erosion.
