The fortress is a cultural heritage site protected by Yinchuan City and is now the location of the Western Film Studio at Town North Fortress. It is acclaimed as a "unique marvel of China."

The Western Film Studio at Town North Fortress is located on the majestic eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, 25 kilometers from Yinchuan Railway Station and 48 kilometers from Hedong Airport. National Highway 110 runs through the area, making transportation convenient. It is a highlight of the Helan Mountain Eastern Foothills tourist area. As Yinchuan’s first AAAAA-level tourist attraction, it has been named "China’s Most Popular Travel Destination" and "China’s Best Tourist Attraction," and is treasured by locals as the "Jewel of Ningxia." It stands as one of the successful models of China’s cultural industry. Among China’s many film studios, the Western Film Studio at Town North Fortress is distinguished by its rustic, desolate, primitive, rough-hewn, and folk-style ambiance. Classic films such as Red Sorghum, To Live, and A Chinese Odyssey, along with over 100 other influential productions, were shot here, earning it the reputation as "the place where Chinese cinema steps onto the world stage."
