Wanliang Mountain Grottoes

Introduction The Wanliang Mountain Grottoes are located in Tianzhuang Village, Chuan Kou Township, about 25 kilometers northwest of Pengyang County. Backed by Wanliang Mountain and facing Shixia River, they are nestled against the mountain and near the water, boasting beautiful scenery. The grottoes are carved into the cliffs halfway up the mountain, consisting of two caves about 50 meters apart, both facing south and arranged from east to west along the Shixia River. These grottoes were built in 1032 (the 10th year of the Tian Sheng era of the Song Dynasty). In 1985, the Wanliang Mountain Grottoes were designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit. In 1988, they were further listed as an autonomous region-level cultural relics protection unit. In 1991, the people of Pengyang County planted 400 “Cultural Relics and Historic Sites Memorial Trees” around the grottoes.
