Dabanshan Mountain (达坂: in Mongolian, meaning mountain pass or ridge) is located at the border between Datong County and Menyuan County in Qinghai Province, serving as a key transportation route from Qinghai to Gansu. Among the many mountains on the Qinghai Plateau, Dabanshan can be considered relatively minor, but its strategic geographical location has made it highly prominent on the plateau. The river valley areas on both the southern and northern sides of Dabanshan are at relatively lower elevations, featuring a cool temperate climate, and are important agricultural and pastoral regions in Qinghai. In particular, the broad and expansive Haomen River Valley on the northern side is entirely planted with rapeseed, creating a nationally renowned hundred-mile sea of flowers. The southern side, Datong County, is an important spring wheat production base in Qinghai Province. The scenic areas on the southern side—including the Baoku Gorge, Chahanhe National Forest Park, and Heiquan Reservoir—are captivating.
