Second-year participants dash off the starting line toward victory
July 15, 2013, Shanghai — The 3rd J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge will be held on October 24, 2013, along the Xuhui Riverside in Shanghai, with an expected 8,000 participants. As a globally renowned sporting event, the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge has achieved great success in China.
“We are truly honored to welcome the 3rd J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge to Shanghai. Shanghai has become an important stop on this corporate event that promotes employee health and camaraderie across five continents, seven countries, and thirteen cities,” said Greg Guyett, CEO of J.P. Morgan Greater China. “The Corporate Challenge helps us spread the values of healthy living, fair competition, and philanthropy, reflecting our ongoing commitment to Shanghai and China’s business community.”
Shao Zili, Chairman and CEO of J.P. Morgan China, said: “As Shanghai continues to grow and develop, it has risen as one of the world’s leading financial centers. We are confident that this year’s event will attract even more participants and become a major highlight for the corporate world.”
In October 2011, this flagship event made its first appearance in Shanghai, attracting 3,807 participants from 178 companies. The inaugural Shanghai race became one of the most successful debut events in the global series’ history. Last October, participation surged, with 6,500 runners from 227 companies — a 67% increase from the previous year. In 2013, the course and assembly area have been expanded to accommodate 8,000 participants. This year’s registration is expected to be extremely popular, and will close as soon as the quota is filled.
The 2013 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge continues its tradition of charitable giving. In 2011 and 2012, J.P. Morgan donated proceeds to Right To Play and Energize the Chain, respectively. The 2013 beneficiary will be announced before the event. In 2013, J.P. Morgan will donate a total of over $700,000 to nonprofit organizations on behalf of participants across the 13-city series.
In 2012, J.P. Morgan was the top participating company at the Shanghai event, with 368 employees taking part. SMIC (300), Eaton Corporation (250), and General Electric (223) ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Jiang Jian, corporate team captain at Delphi Automotive, a leading global supplier of electronics and technologies for the automotive industry, said: “The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge provides a platform for promoting a healthy lifestyle among our employees. Delphi has its own sports culture. From senior management to frontline staff, the company encourages everyone to participate in the race. Including myself, at least four Asia-Pacific executives have signed up for this event. Running is good for your health, especially for those who spend long hours sitting in the office.”
As one of the world’s most prestigious corporate sporting events, the 2013 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge is set to reach a record-breaking number of participants. The total series participation will exceed 263,000, surpassing the previous record of 253,041 set in 2012.
