Key highlights of this year’s Yangshuo Rock Climbing Festival:
1. The charm of Yangshuo through pure rock climbing
The 2013 KAILAS Yangshuo Rock Climbing Festival will let you experience the allure of Yangshuo through pure rock climbing. This year’s festival will feature newly developed climbing areas and additional routes launching alongside the event, which we believe will attract both domestic and international climbers—new and veteran alike—to join major activities such as the “On-sight Competition” and “Redpoint Event.” Classic events that have drawn the most excitement in previous editions, such as the night bouldering competition, natural wall climbing-for-points, freestyle and highline performances, music and beer parties, will also return. In addition, the festival continues last year’s well-received beginner climbing training and other experience-based activities, while also adding new slacklining experiences.
2. The presence of international climbing stars
Each year, the rock climbing festival attracts top climbers from around the globe. This year’s edition continues the tradition of a stellar guest lineup. We are honored to have invited Australia’s top boulderer JAMES KASSAY (famous for completing the legendary V16 boulder problem “Wheel of Life”), as well as six-time World Cup Speed Climbing Champion Zhong Qixin. All climbing enthusiasts will have the chance to witness and meet these two world-class athletes up close. They will also take part in the classic night bouldering competition, adding even more excitement to the atmosphere.
A brighter future for the Yangshuo Rock Climbing Festival:
Since the first Yangshuo Rock Climbing Festival was held in 2008, the event has grown over five years not only to establish Yangshuo as China’s premier climbing destination but also to allow more climbers to fully appreciate the beauty of natural rock walls. The Yangshuo International Rock Climbing Festival, from small beginnings to a major event, has played an immeasurable role in promoting the sport of natural wall climbing in China. KAILAS, which has always been committed to popularizing climbing, will continue to support the Yangshuo Climbing Federation in developing more climbing areas and new routes to attract more seasoned and new climbers to experience and enjoy the sport. “Getting climbers onto natural rock walls is just the first step in promoting the sport. Through the festival, we aim to integrate outdoor activities, travel, and more to attract even more people to love and engage with the outdoors,” said the event organizers. This reflects the heart of the organizers and the ongoing mission of KAILAS.
