Sapporo Snow Festival kicks off – feast your eyes on 198 colorful snow sculptures

The 2014 Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido opened on the 5th, featuring a total of 198 snow and ice sculptures displayed across three venues in Sapporo.Taiwan also presented ice sculptures themed “Taiwan – Tradition and Modernity,” including models of Taipei 101 and the National Palace Museum.Currently, the Hokkaido region is experiencing freezing weather and snowfall, offering visitors the rare opportunity to admire snow sculptures in the snowy landscape.

Now in its 65th year, the Sapporo Snow Festival runs until the 11th. The three snow sculpture exhibition venues are the “Odori Venue,” the “Susukino Venue,” and the “Tsudome Venue.” In addition to admiring the spectacular ice sculptures during the day, visitors can enjoy dazzling multicolored lighting at night that makes the already crystal-clear works even more brilliant. The nighttime ice sculpture displays run until 10 p.m. daily, while the “Susukino Venue” stays open until 11 p.m.
