15TN Glowing Dumplings • February 14th: Let romantic hearts soar into the Pingxi night sky

The 2014 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival kicked off on February 3rd. In preparation for the events on February 8th and 14th, the New Taipei City Government officially unveiled the "Giant Panda Dumpling Sky Lantern" on February 5th in the first-floor lobby of the city hall. The 4.5-meter-tall dumpling immediately drew gasps of amazement from the audience.

New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Hou Yu-yi stated that the "Giant Panda Dumpling Sky Lantern," specially created this year by the New Taipei City Government, symbolizes a new milestone in the collaboration between New Taipei City and Taipei City in tourism.

Chen Kuo-chun, Director of the New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Bureau, explained that the Giant Panda "Dumpling Sky Lantern" stands 4.5 meters tall, with a head width of 2 meters and a waist width of 3.5 meters. Its design is inspired by the giant panda cub "Dumpling." Due to its large and unique shape, it was crafted entirely by hand.

The Tourism Bureau noted that the February 8th event, themed "Lighting Hope, Touching the World," will feature the release of 6TN sky lanterns printed with eight species of Taiwan’s protected animals, as well as a massive 20TN "Wishing Collage Sky Lantern." The February 14th event, "Hand in Hand for Reunion, Love Soaring High," will include the launch of the "Giant Panda Dumpling Sky Lantern" and 200 heart-shaped sky lanterns.
