Located within the tranquil Hongmen Mountain in Gouli Township, over 200 kilometers southeast of Dulan County, Shrimp Gathering Peak sits at an average altitude of more than 4,400 meters. On the sunlit side of the peak’s waist and summit, covering an area of about 70 square meters, lies a vast expanse of fossilized giant shrimp, dark bluish-black in color and gleaming brilliantly under the sunlight. These fossils are not mere cross-sections of large rocks that merely display a flat image of shrimp; rather, they consist of thousands upon thousands of large and small sea shrimp, perfectly embedded within the rocky cliffs. From a distance, they resemble uniquely shaped reliefs, a dazzling array that looks like shrimp stirring up the ocean—some proudly raising their whiskers as if invincible, others pointing their many legs in fury, or curling and struggling as if still putting up a desperate fight despite past injuries... Their heroic postures and vivid expressions bring them to life. Shrimp Gathering Peak is a precious treasure left to the people of the West. While geological ages have erased the ancient seas of the Qaidam region, they have also vividly engraved the trajectory of life on Earth onto the Kunlun Mountains.
