Liupanshui Tianjia Courtyard

The Liupanshui Tianjia Courtyard is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Tianjia Courtyard is located in Tianjia Village, Taihe Village, Yanjiao Town, built around the 10th year of the Republic of China (1921). It features enclosed courtyard walls with fire-resistant barriers and watchtowers, a traditional Chinese post-and-lintel hip-and-gable roof structure, and small grey tiles. The architecture boasts a rigorous layout, exquisite craftsmanship in plaster sculpture, wood carving, and murals, reflecting strong local building characteristics, along with an advanced drainage system.

Taihe Village, where the Tianjia Courtyard is situated, lies in the central area of Yanjiao Town, nestled along the scenic Huilong Stream. The village enjoys a mild climate with no severe cold in winter or extreme heat in summer, abundant rainfall, and a forest coverage rate of 35%, at an average elevation of 1,250 meters. The Huilong Stream Scenic Area’s tourist roads and pedestrian pathways encircle the village, offering convenient transportation and abundant local produce.

1. The main house originally had 5 rooms, 4 of which remain. Most of the beams are still intact, and the small grey tile roof is preserved, though the roof ridge has been destroyed. The wooden panels and flooring were removed during the “Four Cleanups” campaign, and the structure now consists of stone walls.

2. The millhouse, adjacent to the east side room of the main house, once contained a grain storage area, with some beam structures remaining.

3. The east wing room, consisting of 3 rooms, retains its main framework and small grey tile roof, but the wooden panels and roof ridge have been destroyed. Some pillars still have their pedestals.

4. The west wing room has been destroyed.

5. The gatehouse, with 5 rooms, largely retains its beam structure, as well as the roof ridge and small grey tile roof. Some wooden panels are also relatively well-preserved.

6. The fire-resistant walls and watchtowers are well-preserved, though some murals on the fire-resistant walls have been damaged.

Taihe Village: Located southwest of the Yanjiao Town People's Government, Taihe Village is 0.6 km from the town government and 23 km from the Liuzhi Special District urban area. Covering a total area of 4.5 square kilometers with 1,370 mu of arable land and a forest coverage rate of 26.8%, the village had a population of 1,360 in 2010 (including 980 agricultural residents and 380 non-agricultural residents). The main ethnic group is Han Chinese, with ethnic minorities accounting for only 0.25% of the population. The village comprises three natural hamlets and seven villager groups.
