General's Lake

General's Lake is located at the midpoint of the road from Pengshan County to Jiangkou Town. Legend has it that the lakeside was once the storage site for the treasures of Zhang Xianzhong’s rebel army during the late Ming Dynasty peasant uprising. During a battle, the general guarding the treasury was killed, and local residents later built a temple in his honor—hence the lake’s name. The lake is small but crystal-clear, surrounded by lush woods that create a serene and secluded atmosphere. Nearby Shiniugou (Stone Ox Gully) features a cliff face resembling a screen, standing about 10 meters high and stretching 100 meters, making it an ideal spot for poetry and inscriptions. The gully is deep and densely wooded, with oddly shaped rocks—many resembling wild animals—that are quite scenic.
